And now I've used my more than two decades of computer training experience to create the I Learn Linux Training Videos - to make it easy for you to learn how to use Linux and work with Linux Commands.
With a specialty in networking and operating systems, I'm the author of several best-selling textbooks for publisher Lancom Technologies.
These textbooks include several computer software and networking software courses, the Hello Linux! - A Comprehensive Hands-On Course Book, as well as the I Learn Linux Training Videos.
Instructors at schools all across North America assign or recommend my Linux training materials because students learn more quickly with them and because the students give my books and videos such high marks.
My forte is explaining intricate technical matters in an easy-to-understand, non-technical manner.
Hailed for their accuracy and painstaking attention to detail, my books and videos fit the needs of novices, professors, corporate computer whizzes, independent trainers and self-paced learners.

"My students are living in a Microsoft world and Linux is a totally new experience for them. I know the I Learn Linux Training Videos have helped them tremendously.
Each night they watch tutorials at home for class the next day. This makes my presentation easier and saves me a lot of time. In class, I monitor their hands-on exercises while they work through the Hello Linux - A Comprehensive Hands-On Linux Training Course Book, so I'm sure they are learning as expected.
Clyde has done a great job of creating these video tutorials and the way he explains everything makes it very easy for my students to learn.
They like the way they can see the installations of several Linux versions, different desktops, and lots of commands. The comparisons of the different Linux versions is also very helpful because who knows what version of Linux they'll be using when they've finished their training with us.
All my students are working towards Linux+ and LPI certifications and I'm sure these tutorials help them to gain entry into the IT Industry."

Getting To The Linux Command Line Prompt
    To Run Linux Commands

This sample Linux commands training video shows you how to get from a Linux desktop to the Linux command line prompt so that you can run Linux commands.

The steps to get to the Linux command line are shown for several Linux distributions, including: Red Hat Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Fedora Linux, SUSE Linux and Mandrake / Mandriva Linux.
These steps will allow you to get from a Linux desktop to the command line prompt in ANY and ALL Linux distributions (versions).
Once you get to the command line prompt, you'll see how to use the su (SuperUser) command with the dash option so you can start working as the root user, which is the main Linux System Administration user.

Logging In To A Linux Desktop As A Non-Root User
And Opening Of Terminal Emulation Window

During this I Learn Linux Training Video you will see the steps to log into a Linux desktop is a non-root user in Red Hat Linux.

Keep in mind that the Linux concepts, commands and steps shown in all these I Learn Linux Training Videos will work for ALL versions of Linux.
The name of the example user in several of these Linux training videos is "cwest", which represents a user named "Chris West".
For security reasons, you never log into a Linux desktop is the root user.
To run Linux commands and do Linux system administration on a Linux desktop system, you log in to the desktop as a non-root user, go to the command line prompt and then run the su (SuperUser) command to work as the root user, which is used to run commands to manage and administer a Linux system.
After running the Linux su command, you are in the home directory of the root user, which is in the directory named root, below the / directory.
So, the full directory path to the home directory of the user named root (the System Administration user) is "/root" (slash root).

How To Run Linux Commands And Use Options of Commands

This Linux video shows you step-by-step how to run commands and use options of commands at the command line prompt.

The command line prompt is also referred to as the Command Line Interface and is sometimes abbreviated with the letters CLI.
Linux commands need to have spaces in the right places, and are "case sensitive", which means that some parts of the command must be typed in lowercase letters and other parts need to be typed in uppercase letters.
This video shows you how to run the ls command to list the files and directories in the current directory and how to use the -l (for long) option of the ls command to get a "long listing".
Using the -l option of the ls command shows a "long listing" and is used to show more information, such as permissions, user names, group names, file sizes, dates and times.
In the full I Learn Linux Training Videos, several other options of the ls command are shown - and OVER 100 other commands are covered - and lots of options of these commands are shown as well!

Using The Linux Fdisk Command To View
    And Create Hard Disk Partitions

There are many times when a Linux System Administrator needs to view partitions on an existing hard disk in a system, add a hard disk to a system and also create new partitions on a hard disk.

The Linux fdisk command is used to look at the partitions that exist on a hard disk in a system and also create a partition and write it to disk.
In this Linux training video, you're going to see how to do all these steps.
In addition to learning how to install Linux for several Linux distributions, and work on a Linux desktop, there are lots of otherconcepts Linux and commands that are covered in the I Learn Linux Training Videos - as you can see from the detailed Table of Contents below.
